Storage crisis of renewable energyThe whole solar electric power and wind energy branch denies the storage crisis. The standard answers about the storage problem are easy to disprove.
When You ask employees from companies doing solar and wind energy, You will hear "We have the power grid as storage". How does this work? When the sun shines or the wind blows, we switch off caloric power plants. Very nice, we have at a honest extension of renewable energy in Germany 80 GW wind energy and 160 GW solar energy in in the foreseeable future. That would be theoretical 45% of electricity. Theoretical, because what happens at a sunny and windy day? 240 GW are feed in the power grid. How to switch off 240 GW caloric power plants, when only 90 GW are on?
The fan of sun and wind brought so in embarrassment means. "We have storage power plants". A famouse example for this is Kaprun. 130 MW for pumping up the water., so for 150 GW we need only 1154 times Kaprun. Yes, but Kaprun has 330 MW power production, lets increase the pumping to 600 MW. Great, now we need only 250 times Kaprun! Where to built 250 times Kaprun? To illustrate the problem, here the fight between more water power and landscape protectors. |
