The theory is well known. Higher temperature difference between cold and warm side causes more energy demand for the heat pump.

On the booth of Gösselsberger earth heat and solar energy from Frankenburg was it possible to test this theory.

First it was easy like on a flat street, but as soon as the right bucket becomes cold and the left bocket becomes warm, it's like steep uphill with the bicycle.
